There’s always something magical about an artist that is able to bring multiple contrasting elements to the table and combine them seamlessly. 20-year old South London rapper Scuti does just that on her brand new single “You Know”. A soft and gentle voice paired with boasty, braggadocious lyrics, and a dark, lurking instrumental, Scuti adds yet another W to her small but ever growing catalogue of bangers. On You Know, Scuti raps the traditional rap-story of not being able to settle for a 9-5 and feeling destined for something greater than mediocrity. But what really sells this track for me personally, is the distinctive charisma and confidence that you can hear echoed through her quiet and laid-back voice. The kissing of the teeth, the melodic drawing out of certain words and the almost whisper-like bridge to her opening verse, it’s all very unique and refreshing to hear from an artist as young as she is. Scuti premiered this song with a music video on her Youtube channel on July 2nd. The video is riddled with trippy visuals and distortion effects. It’s creative and full of life, there’s a lot going on in it but I think that’s reflective of the song too. Watch Scuti’s video for “You Know” below:
