It's a pleasure to finally be able to do one of these with you! Thank You so much for supporting us and the UG Movement! Start us off by introducing yourself and what got you into the Creative side of Photography?
My dad got me into photography growing up. He bought me a little point and shoot when I was still in elementary school because I was obsessed with taking pictures and being in pictures.
I think female Creatives like yourself are so inspiring for other women looking to break out of their comfort zone and get into the freelance entrepreneur market. What's some advice that you can pass along to inspire some other females to let go and break out of their comfort zone?
I think the most important thing is not being afraid to network with other creatives and professionals. Message anyone in the industry even if it’s just to grab a coffee and learn about other people’s journey. It will help you find you own way when you realize how similar our paths all are.
Do you think it is a male dominant industry in terms of "photographers?" Would you say that companies are more incline to hire male photographers over women?
I do find that the photography profession is more male dominated. I don’t necessarily find that men are hired more often but I do find that men are more willing to charge more than women are which has been really interesting to me. Women tend to have a different way of evaluating their work I think.
What's one of the biggest obstacles you've faced so far on your entrepreneur journey?
My biggest obstacle has probably been getting out of my own head. You start to compare yourself to other artists or put yourself in a box creatively and allowing yourself to just create without fear of judgement or criticism is so liberating.
As always Fam, we like to end with a quote/saying you've been using as personal inspiration; Leave us with one of yours!
This last year I got the words “Still I Rise;” tattooed on me. It’s the title of a Maya Angelou poem but just serves as a reminder no matter what I’m doing that I can never settle and never stop fighting for what I love and what I believe in.
